Muslims have been a part of the fabric of America since well before the most recent wave of immigration that began in the late 1980s. Islam arrived in America almost 500 years ago as crew of European discovery expeditions, and in the holds of the slave ships; while the faith was carried across the plains to the Pacific in handcarts, and on the backs of immigrants to flourish in this "land of plenty".
Today, Islam is the fastest growing religion on the face of the planet, with over 1.6 billion adherents worldwide. In America, Muslims number about 7 million, with more than 2,000 mosques spread coast-to-coast.
Muslims are doctors, lawyers, teachers, businessmen and women, politicians, sports figures, actors, musicians, scientists, military personnel, laborers, law enforcement, engineers, other professionals, and mothers, fathers, children, and citizens.
Islam is in America to stay...
