South Dakota Governor Signs Anti-Shari'a Law

Sad News: On 3/12/12, the Governor of South Dakota signed Anti-Shari'a House Bill 1253 into law.

The sponsor of House Bill 1253 (HB 1253) admits the it was designed to attack Shari'a, the religious principles of American Muslims. The Bill excerpt below is not only unconstitutional, but is wholly prejudicial and short-sighted, as it disallows the free exercise of religion by not just Muslims, but Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, and even Catholics who follow the laws set forth by the Vatican!

SOUTH DAKOTA HB 1253: AN ACT ENTITLED, An Act to prohibit the judicial enforcement of any religious codes.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA: Section 1. That chapter 19-8 be amended by adding thereto a NEW SECTION to read as follows: No court, administrative agency, or other governmental agency may enforce any provisions of any religious code

Council on American Islamic Relations chapters across the country have been at the forefront in the overturning of a similarly prejudiced bill in Oklahoma, and more recently stopped others in their tracks in New Jersey, Florida, Minnesota, Mississippi, and Georgia. CAIR will continue to work across the country to defeat these hateful laws as they are brought forth by the bigots who propose canceling the US Constitutional Right of Freedom of Religion.
